Ross Human Directions Limited was founded in 1988 by Julia Ross. The company was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange on 8 September 2000 and became the only female-owned business and the largest sole-owner business ever to list.

In December 2010 the company was acquired by the Chandler Macleod Group (ASX:CMG), however still trades in its own right.
